Northern Chefs Alliance event heading to St. John's, NL
By Home & Cabin 2015-07-06
Go fishing, spend some time foraging in the woods, make a meal – it sounds like a typical summer’s day at the cabin, but this time there’s a twist. This trip is being organized by the Northern Chefs Alliance, and the people doing the fishing and foraging are all – you guessed it – chefs.
Their bounty will be prepared and served to the public on July 26 at Merchant Tavern, the newest venture from celebrated chef Jeremy Charles, whose other restaurant, Raymonds, was recently voted Canada’s top restaurant for the second year in a row.
The Northern Chefs Alliance, of which Jeremy Charles is a member, has done similar events in previous years, each time partnering with a local non-profit. This time around, they’re helping to raise funds for the St. John’s Farmers Market and their relocation.
The annual gathering of culinary creatives will explore the possibilities in wild ingredients, while sharing methods and ideas amongst chefs.
Participating chefs include:
host Jeremy Charles – Raymonds, St. John's;
Derek Dammann – Maison Publique, Montreal;
Antonio Park – Park, Montreal;
John Horne – Canoe, Toronto;
Matty Matheson, Parts and Labour, Toronto
Rob Gentile – Buca, Toronto.
Matt Jennings - Townsman, Boston;
Nicole Krasinski and Stuart Brioza – both with State Bird Provisions & The Progress, San Francisco;
Jenn Louis – Lincoln, Portland;
Justin Smillie – Upland, New York.
Tickets for an evening with the Northern Chefs Alliance in support of the St. John’s Farmers’ Market are available by calling The Merchant Tavern at (709) 722-5050.
